Render Symposium at University of Monterrey

. Thursday, May 7, 2009

When we accepted an invitation to speak at Render, a media symposium at the University of Monterrey, we had no idea what level of production we were about to join. My memories of guest speakers on our campus included folding chairs for students, and maybe nicer chairs for speakers on a bare stage. But, this three-day event was so professional that we often forgot we were in the hands of college students. From the moment we arrived, they designated drivers and tour guides for us, we were led into VIP seating areas, our photos were taken with restaurant owners, the stage was like a national Addy Award show, we were hosted at a luxury hotel, and they even sponsored a premiere of Desierto Adentro, a new Mexican film and recent winner of the Ariel Award. I look forward to a project where I can hire the most impressive students we met: Alex, Gabi, Jaime, Javier, and Rolando.

The event was MC'd by Mario Filio, the Latin voice talent for so many characters. What a treat to get to know Mario. To introduce our session, the students had produced a short video with Mario's VO and we were so impressed with their level of attention to detail. They really did their research and included just about every fact and photo of us that exists online.

One of the highlights was spending a day (and late evening) with graphic designer Lance Wyman. He has influenced so many images that we see in our everyday life and he is a most charming and unassuming man; a true role model for us as we always try to make top quality content. In fact, this entire symposium was an inspiration in quality and creativity.
