SHOOT

Last week we had a great trip to New York, visited with friends and had some super-fresh sushi. We attended the SHOOT New Director's Showcase event where Kevin was invited to join the panel discussion. (photo from my phone...)

Afterwards we celebrated at the very crowded reception in the DGA Theater. Events like these are perfect networking opportunities and I usually can meet some people who we might hire or who we would like to work for, so I'm always forcing myself to turn to someone and say, "Hi, I'm Kate..." and begin a conversation. It's not a completely natural instinct. Sometimes I have to remind myself to do it.

But this is an important role of a producer - to get to know people and be able to put them together to use their unique talents to create something. And since hiring crew members who are the right match for the project and client is crucial to the success of a project, these opportunities are just as important. After this event, I went home with contact information for editors, agents, other producers and directors, animators, musicians, and after-effects specialists. All in all, a night of great conversation.
